Crown molding for indirect lighting can add an elegance and breathe life into the most uninspiring room. You can use strip lighting and other lighting options that might be a perfect fit for your living space décor.
Crown molding lighting idea
We installed the crown on top of a baseboard to create a wider space for the light, and tacked a small cove molding onto the bottom of the base to finish it. We fastened the light strip to the wall so the lights would rake across the ceiling, and in order to maximize the light, we kept the strip as high as we could without its being visible from the ground.
Make a small mock-up and experiment with different positions for the cove and lights. Every room is different, and the cove we made may not be the best style for your room.
How to chose crown molding for indirect lighting
It’s very important to put the time into planning your crown molding with indirect lighting details prior to starting any work. Think about how the lighting will be installed behind the molding. We used a three piece crown that created a natural pocket to set the rope into. This saved us time from having to use special fasteners to keep it straight.
You also want to make certain the molding will cover the entire recessed outlet and cover plate. Nothing looks more amateur than an indirect lighting project where you can see the light source.
